Merci beaucoup Obama
Je regrette que M. Obama est « gêné » que nous ne parlons pas une autre langue étrangère dans ce pays. ...not pour mentionner nos voyages sur les mers. Dans l'école secondaire, quelques ans soutiennent, j'ai pris deux ans de français. Au temps, j'ai pensé cet étais une belle langue. ..and calme fait. Si vous n'engagez pas dans lui sur une base quotidienne ou habitez en ce pays, alors vous oubliez que vous avez appris. Je peux compter toujours à dix et sais quelques-uns autres mots. Mais, je ne suis pas gêné du tout que j'ai oublié comment parler le français.
Mes deux filles prendront espagnol dans l'école secondaire & l'université. Laura a pris français dans l'école secondaire mais doit reprend la condition de langue dans l'université & ce sera espagnol. Ceci deviendra serviable dans l'emploi futur pourvu qu'elle pratique. ...use il ou le perd.
Si vous étiez de habiter en un pays étranger, alors absolument vous avez besoin de savoir cette langue du pays pour fonctionner. Dans notre pays, l'anglais est la langue parlée et si vous venez ici habiter, vous avez besoin d'apprendre la langue. Pas l'autre façon environ. Cela est juste la façon c'est.
In case you are one of those Americans that doesn't speak another language and an embarrassment to our nation, here is the English translation......FYI-I used an online translator for the above, I'm such an embarrassment too...:)
I'm sorry that Mr. Obama is "embarrassed" that we don't speak another foreign language in this country....not to mention our trips over seas. In high school, some years back, I took two years of French. At the time, I thought it was a beautiful language...and still do. If you don't engage in it on a daily basis or live in that country, then you forget what you learned. I can still count to ten and know a few other words. But, I'm not embarrassed at all that I've forgotten how to speak French.
My two daughters will be taking Spanish in high school & college. Laura took French in high school but has to retake the language requirement in college & it will be Spanish. This will become helpful in future employment as long as she practices....use it or lose it.
If you were to live in a foreign country, then by all means you need to know that country's language in order to function. In our country, English is the spoken language and if you come here to live, you need to learn the language. Not the other way around. That's just the way it is.

Why does other nations should learn to speak more languages and Americans shouldn't? I live in Québec, for those who don't know it's the french province of Canada, which is not another state like I've heard not long ago.
I Speak a good base of english I think, good enough to leave a comment here, my first language is French and I'm learning German. Tell me why does a nation should limit themselves to ONE language? Why, when I leave a french comment on Youtube (which is an international website now) I get some reply like "ZOMG! L2English plz!" Learning another language, if you're really willing to, is not that hard, it open your mind to other cultures, make it easier to get a job.
In a world where all the nations start to share their cultures with others, and where the number of bilingual and trilingual is growing, how are doing the United-stats? Most of Americans only speak English. How do you want to be taken seriously in a world where we have a global economy if you can't even speak with others. Why should all the rest of the world learn you'r language while you just don't make any effort to learn ours? I don't think all Americans should learn all our languages but if you at least spoke one other. It could be good.
By the way the United-Stats NEVER picked English as their official language. Just make your own research if you don't believe me. Why? Because what brought together the Stats was not a same nationality, but it was the sharing your values of freedom and liberty.

Thanks for your reply. You write very well in English. Our country's language is "unofficially" English. Everything produced for the public is done so in English. It is in recent years that more is being printed also in Spanish for those that don't learn the language once they start living here, some for many, many years. That is what I disagree with. Why should a country conform to a language (Spanish) just because a person refuses to learn English.
At this point in my life, I don't have to converse with others other than my own language. If some want to learn another language because of their career, travel or just want to, then that is their choice.
I love to watch documentaries & the such on other countries & their cultures, the people & their way of life...without learning the language. That's just me....
Quant à votre dernier paragraphe dans le français, j'ai vraiment un esprit ouvert sur beaucoup de choses. Quant à l'édition de langue, bien je crois que j'ai couvert celui-là ci-dessus.
