Can we ask Obama? YES, we can!

Young Mooses Playing in Water

My friend, Ruth, sent this to me. It's a video of precious twin mooses and their mom playing in a backyard sprinkler in Anchorage, Alaska in June, 2008.

Christian the Lion

Hopefully, by now, you have seen the loving story of Christian the lion raised by 2 men in London in a furniture store and returned to the wild in Africa. The video you have seen in the news (below) is the reunion which took place about a year after their last visit. Christian remembered them and gave them the huge hugs as only lions can give.

Below is a Youtube page which chronicles the full story of Christian. There are 10 videos with the reunion shown above in #9. It follows the work of George Adamson with the lions and how he introduced Christian to Boy, a lion from the Born Free movie and the other lions to form the new lion pride. The videos are numbered and you need to watch them in sequence.

Christian left the Kora Reserve in 1973. He made his new territory along the Tana river, but when the Wakamba herdsmen kept bringing their livestock to his hunting ground, he moved on. George Adamson said in his autobiography, "I used to count the days on which we hadn't seen Christian, but when they reached 97, I gave up recording them in my diary." Because a lion can live from 12 to 15 years in the wild, Adamson believed that Christian ended his days in the Meru National Reserve only a few miles up river.

As for the two guys, the Born Free Foundation says that Anthony "Ace" Bourke (referred to as Ace "Berg" on YouTube) lives in Australia as a lecturer and expert in the area of Aboriginal Art, and John Rendall lives in the UK and is a Trustee of the George Adamson Wildlife Preservation Trust.

Wet Pants

Come with me to a third grade classroom...... There is a nine-year-old kid sitting at his desk and all of a sudden, there is a puddle between his feet and the front of his pants are wet. He thinks his heart is going to stop because he cannot possibly imagine how this has happened. It's never happened before, and he knows that when the boys find out he will never hear the end of it. When the girls find out, they'll never speak to him again as long as he lives.

The boy believes his heart is going to stop; he puts his head down and prays this prayer, 'Dear God, this is an emergency! I need help now! Five minutes from now I'm dead meat.'

He looks up from his prayer and here comes the teacher with a look in her eyes that says he has been discovered.

As the teacher is walking toward him, a classmate named Susie is carrying a goldfish bowl that is filled with water. Susie trips in front of the teacher and inexplicably dumps the bowl of water in the boy's lap.

The boy pretends to be angry, but all the while is saying to himself, 'Thank you, Lord! Thank you, Lord!'

Now all of a sudden, instead of being the object of ridicule, the boy is the object of sympathy. The teacher rushes him downstairs and gives him gym shorts to put on while his pants dry out. All the other children are on their hands and knees cleaning up around his desk. The sympathy is wonderful. But as life would have it, the ridicule that should have been his has been transferred to someone else - Susie.

She tries to help, but they tell her to get out. You've done enough, you klutz!'

Finally, at the end of the day, as they are waiting for the bus, the boy walks over to Susie and whispers, 'You did that on purpose, didn't you?' Susie whispers back, 'I wet my pants once too..'

May God help us see the opportunities that are always around us to do good...

Character

(This is a long story, but one worth posting.)

A Successful business man was growing old and knew it was time to choose a successor to take over the business. Instead of choosing one of his directors or his children, he decided to do something different. He called all of the young executives in his company together.

He said, ”It is time for me to step down and choose the next CEO. I have decided to choose one of you.” The young executives were shocked but the boss continued. “I am going to give each one of you a SEED today- one very special SEED. I want you to plant the seed, water it, and come back here in one year from today with what you have grown from the seed I have given you. I will then judge the plants that you bring, and the one I choose will be the next CEO.”

One man named Jim, was there that day and he, like the others received a seed. He went home and excitedly told his wife the story. She helped him get a pot, soil, and compost and he planted the seed. Everyday, he would water it and watch to see if it had grown.

After about three weeks, some of the other executives began to talk about their seeds, and the plants that were beginning to grow. Jim kept checking his seed, but nothing ever grew. Three weeks, four weeks, five weeks went by, still nothing. By now, others were talking about their plants, but Jim didn’t have a plant and he felt like a failure. Six months went by and still nothing in Jim’s pot. He just knew he had killed his seed. Everyone else had trees and tall plants, but he had nothing. Jim didn’t say anything to his colleagues, however. He just kept watering and ferilizing the soil. He so wanted the seed to grow.

A year finally went by and all the young executives of the company brought their plants to the CEO for inspection. Jim told his wife he wasn’t going to take an empty pot. But she asked him to be honest about what happened. Jim felt sick in his stomach. It was going to be the most embarrassing moment of his life. but he knew his wife was right. He took his empty pot to the board room. When Jim arrived, he was amazed at all the variety of plants grown by the other executives. They were beautiful- in all shapes and sizes. Jim put his empty pot on the floor and many of his colleagues laughed. A few felt sorry for him!

When the CEO arrived, he surveyed the room and greeted his young executives. Jim just tried to hide in the back, “My what great plants, trees and flowers you have grown,” said the CEO. “Today one of you will be appointed the next CEO!” All of a sudden, the CEO spotted Jim at the back of the room with his empty pot. He ordered the financial director to bring him to the front. Jim was terrified. He thought, “The CEO knows I am a failure! Maybe he will have me fired!” When Jim got in front, the CEO asked him what happened to his seed Jim told the story.

The CEO asked everyone to sit down except Jim. He looked at Jim and then announced to the young executives, “Behold, your next Chief Executive! His name is Jim!”

Jim couldn’t believe it. Jim couldn’t even grow his seed. How could he be the new CEO the others said? Then the CEO said, “One year ago today, I gave everyone in this room a seed. I told you to take the seed, plant it, water it, and bring it back to me today. But I gave you all boiled seeds; they were dead. It was not possible for them to grow. All of you, except Jim have brought me trees, plants and flowers. When you found that the seed would not grow, you substituted another seed for the one I gave you. Jim was the only one with the courage and honesty to bring me a pot with my seed in it. Therefore, he is the one who will be the new Chief Executive!”

If you plant honesty, you will reap trust

If you plant goodness, you will reap friends,

If you plant humility, you will reap greatness,

If you plant perseverance, you will reap contentment,

If you plant consideration, you will reap perspective,

If you plant hard work, you will reap success,

If you plant forgiveness, you will reap reconciliation.

So, be careful what you plant now, it will determine what you will reap later.

Merci beaucoup Obama

..and calme fait.

In case you are one of those Americans that doesn't speak another language and an embarrassment to our nation, here is the English translation......FYI-I used an online translator for the above, I'm such an embarrassment too...:)

I'm sorry that Mr. Obama is "embarrassed" that we don't speak another foreign language in this country....not to mention our trips over seas. In high school, some years back, I took two years of French. At the time, I thought it was a beautiful language...and still do. If you don't engage in it on a daily basis or live in that country, then you forget what you learned. I can still count to ten and know a few other words. But, I'm not embarrassed at all that I've forgotten how to speak French.

My two daughters will be taking Spanish in high school & college. Laura took French in high school but has to retake the language requirement in college & it will be Spanish. This will become helpful in future employment as long as she practices....use it or lose it.

If you were to live in a foreign country, then by all means you need to know that country's language in order to function. In our country, English is the spoken language and if you come here to live, you need to learn the language. Not the other way around. That's just the way it is.

Hummingbirds at Grammie's House

On a recent visit to Grammie's house in Gainesville, we were sitting out on the "veranda", a.k.a. the carport, enjoying a nice summer evening, the lightening bugs and the hummingbirds. She has two feeders and sometimes as many as 3 hummingbirds feeding. You can hear them fuss at each other as they fight over who should be eating. Enjoy the photos.
